Abstract

This study analyzes the personality structure and identity formation of Elphaba and Glinda in the Wicked (2024 film script by applying Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, specifically the concepts of the id, ego, and superego, as well as Erik Erikson's theory of identity formation. The primary focus of this study is haw internal and social psychological conflict pressure influence the development of each character's identity. This sruly uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literary psychology approach, with data collected from quotations from the Wicked (20124) mxvic script, selected to reflect psychological eonfliet, moral dilemmas, and identity crises, The results indicate that Elphaba's identity formation is driven by the dynamic interaction of the id, ego, and superego. leading her to achieve n morally grounded identity despite social rejection. In contrast, Glinda's personality structure is dominated by the ego and superego, allowing her to adapt to social expectations but resulting in a closed identity due to her dependence on social approval. Cverall, this sndy confirms the relevance of psychoanalytic theory in understanding how personality structure shapes the identities of film characters and highlights how different psychological dynamics can produce contrasting identity ttsores within the same social environment.
