Abstract

The study analyzed the representation of feminist issues in the Barbie movie script 2023. focused on three main issues: gender inequality, identity, and power. This Barbie movie script not only shows a fantasy world but also reflects the real woman’s experiences in the face of social structures that are not equal. Through Barbie’s journey from Barbie Land to real life, this movie script showed how the critics awareness of gender inequality created through direct experiences, the same as explains feminist standpoint theory by Sandra Harding. This study uses qualitative approach in the analysis of intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the movie script, then connected with feminist standpoint theory and the sociology literature perspective. The result of analysis showed that Barbie got identity transformation significantly. The first is that she is a “perfect Barbie doll” who was created by social expectation to be an individual who realizes herself and is free from the perfect standard that limited, this movie script also means the reconstruction of power, not as domination tool, but as internal strength to choose her life independently. Thus, Barbie has function as social critique that humanizes the social system that is not equal and confirms Is gender equality possible through self-awareness, empowerment, and recognition of individual freedom. This research showed our literature works and movie scripts can be effective media for speaking out on feminist issues.
