Abstract

This term paper aims to analyze the directive utterances of the main character in the movie Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One using theories by Charles W. Kreidler regarding directive utterances and their intention. The Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One movie script is set in the modern era. This term paper uses a qualitative method. The data collection was carried out by reading the movie script, then analyzing every word of the main character, namely Ethan Hunt. The result shows that the intentions are command (16 data), request (4 data), suggestion (1 data), asking (2 data), and warning (3 data). This research shows that imperative sentences, which contain command sentences, are the dominant sentences uttered by the main character, and this is in accordance with the theme of the movie promoted by Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One itself, which is about espionage.
