Abstract

This study aims to find out the types and functions of illocutionary acts from the characters’ dialogue in the Elemental (2023) movie script. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method. The object of this study is the Elemental (2023) movie script. Based on the results of this study, 43 utterances were found. First, there are five types of dialogue illocutionary acts of the characters in Elemental movie script such as representative (15), directive (12), commissive (5), expressive (9), and declarative (2). Second, the researcher described the functions of illocutionary acts. There are 15 data points. They are assertive, descriptive, claiming, stating an opinion, telling, requesting, commanding, advising, ordering, promising, threatening, thanking, apologizing, deploring, and blessing.
