Abstract

The object of this study is the lyrics of songs on the album Cigarettes After Sex, and this study aims to analyze the representation of love through figurative meaning and examine it from the perspective of literary psychology in the lyrics of songs on the album X's (2024) by Cigarettes After Sex. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research method with the technique of analyzing each text in the five selected songs. This analysis was conducted using Sternberg's Triangular Theory of Love, which includes the elements of Intimacy, Passion, and Commitment, and Endraswara's literary psychology approach as a bridge to understand the author's psychology. The use of figurative meaning in song lyrics functions as a medium for expressing emotions such as longing, anxiety, loneliness, or inner conflict in a relationship. The results of the study show that love in this album is represented as an emotional drive influenced by psychological aspects due to affective dissatisfaction. In conclusion, the lyrics in X's album describe an intimate, fragile, and ambivalent love experience, which reflects the psychological condition of individuals in romantic relationships.
