Abstract

This study aims to analyze the utterances of different characters in a script by using translation theory, especially translation techniques. This research used a qualitative approach and descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data because the data obtained in the form of words, clauses, and phrases that need to be described the results of the analysis. The object of this research is the movie script Anyone But You written by Will Gluck. There are 9 out of 18 translation strategies found in analyzing the movie of Anyone But You movie script, namely adaptation, literal translation, borrowing, amplification, description, generalization, linguistic compression, reduction, and particularization. There are 54 data used in this study. The data are divided into 9 strategies, namely adaptation was used 5 data, literal translation 8 data, borrowing 4 data, amplification 11 data, description 4 data; generalization 5 data, linguistic compression 5 data, reduction 11 data, and particularization 1 datum. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that in researching the transcript of this movie, requires to get accurate results requires a well-thought-out and carefully implemented strategy. Without a clear and systematic strategy, the possibility of errors and misinterpretations increases.
